Summary

When performing an incremental extract refresh on Tableau Cloud that is created from a Virtual Connection data source, the refresh incorrectly runs as a full refresh instead.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Log in to Tableau Cloud as a Creator and create a new Virtual Connection, ideally using a data source that would take a few minutes to have an extract generated.

2. Select the ... on the table name and change to extract.

3. Select the ... on the table name once more and select Extract Settings > Enable Incremental Extract > Select a date field (or any row that can update the incremental refresh) > Select Save Settings.

4. Select 'Refresh All Extracts' on the top right, and generate the initial extract. Note approximately how long this operation takes, as this is the base line time in seconds to compare the incremental refresh with.

5. Select Go to Virtual Connection.

6. Select the "Scheduled Tasks" tab on the Virtual Connection, select Incremental for Refresh Type, and Independent for table options. Select Add or Edit Tables, select the Table for the VC, and select Apply.

7. Select the ... on the Scheduled Task, and then Run Now...

8. Navigate to the Jobs page and look the total refresh time, noting that it is comparable to the amount of time required to generate the extract initially, rather than a much shorter duration as would be expected for an Incremental Refresh

Workaround

There isn't a workaround for this issue yet.
