Summary

Context filter in a view connected with published data sources is not respected when viewing full data (when using VizData Service).

Issue happens in Tableau Desktop and Server 2024.2.3 or later.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a new workbook on Tableau Server’s Web UI.
  2. Choose “SuperStore Datasource” as the data source.
  3. Place [City] on the Rows shelf.
  4. Place [Orders (Count)] on the Text shelf in the Marks card.
  5. Add [Ship Mode] to the Filters card and select “First Class” as the filter value.
  6. Right-click on [Ship Mode: First Class] in the Filters card, then select “Add to Context.”
  7. Publish the workbook to Tableau Server.
  8. Open the view in the published workbook.
  9. Click “3" in the row for “Atlanta,” then choose “View Data.”
  10. Confirm that [Count of Orders] is 3 in the Summary (this is expected).
  11. Click [Orders] in the window, and note that “39” rows are populated as full data. (this is not expected)

Workaround

No good workaround. Remove from context in the filter card.
